UT Graduation Cake

So my brother-in-law just graduated from UT....congrats! My husband and I had a brilliant idea to make a cake for the new graduate. Two problems:
1. It was 8:00 pm when this idea came into the world and 9:00 pm when it was set into motion.
2. I had never covered a cake with fondant.

My over achiever of a husband said "You can do it...and you better not mess it up!". Hmm...no pressure:-) To make a long story short...5 hours later (2:00am) this cake was made. My husband did a lot of the details and helped out a lot! If it wasn't for his help I would have pulled an all nighter.

The "C" Word...

Unfortunately, many of us know, or have known, someone with cancer. Maybe it's someone in our family, a friend of ours, someone at school, church, work, etc. It's a scary word. I came across this video on Facebook the other day and wanted to share it with you. Please share it with anyone you can....it definitely gets me out of the mindset of "that can't happen to me."

And for those of you who know somebody who has cancer...fight with them. Whether it's supporting research, participating in Relay for Life, praying for them, running errands for them, or going to the doctor with them...they can't do it alone.

My somewhat successful baking attempts

With the help of some of my girlfriends these awesome lingerie cookies turned out so pretty! The first set of lingerie cookies were my very first attempt and for a friend of mine who was recently married back in December.

The iPad cake was for my "anything Apple I gotta have" husband for his birthday. The icons are made with fondant and hand painted by yours truly :-). I don't have any experience covering an entire cake with fondant and I was limited on my time so the black is just dyed vanilla frosting. And for those of you who are wondering what flavor this cake is...it is strawberry!

The last set of lingerie cookies were made by a crew of my friends for an upcoming family wedding.

I have a few more birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc. that are coming up...so who knows what my next baking adventure will be?

From Prada to Nada...

Prada Marfa...it’s in the middle of nowhere – or actually about 35 miles northwest of Marfa, Texas – which many people think of as being in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah....see what I mean? There's nada around it!

There's stuff still in this Prada store even though it's not open for business! How does it not get busted into??

From where??

I think this is totally cool and totally random. Yep...one day on our way to Big Bend National Park we will stop along the way and check out this Prada store.
